Nhugu Newa (New Newa)
"Nhugu Newa" (New Newa) is a typeface designed as a contemporary interpretation of Ranjana Lipi, the classical script of the Newar people of Kathmandu Valley. Where the traditional calligraphy flows from brush and hand, Nhugu Newa is built entirely from straight lines, vertical, horizontal, and diagonal. The poster presents the full character set. The geometric restraint of the letterforms is intentional. It asks what this script could look like if it were built for the present, not only preserved from the past.
Newa Pattern
The poster abstracts the woven patterns of traditional Newari fabric into a digital grid. The repeating motifs, rendered in the colors of the cloth, fill the entire composition without hierarchy or focal point. The textile traditions of the Newar people carry centuries of cultural memory and are used in everyday life. This poster treats that pattern as both subject and structure.
