Tamang Lipi

The form of the poster is inspired by the damphu, an instrument that has long accompanied Tamang ceremonies, gatherings, and rituals. Its circular shape became the foundation of the composition, allowing the Tamang script to unfold outward from the center. Letters, vowels, additional characters, and numbers are arranged around this form, transforming the poster into both a cultural object and an accessible introduction to the script.

The visual language of the poster draws from traditional forms while presenting the script through a contemporary graphic system. The central floral motif anchors the composition, while the ornamental border and cloud forms frame the typography and reinforce its connection to cultural memory. At the bottom, the words “Nyanglan Lipi • Nyanglan Sampada • Nyanglan Pehchan” connect script with heritage and identity.

Including both Devanagari and English pronunciations was important to me because it allows people who may not know the Tamang script to still engage with it - to sound it out, recognize its forms, and begin to understand it.
